College of Business and Technology Publicity

Listed below are no/low cost options available to CBT departments/schools in an effort to effectively promote programs, majors, students, alumni, achievements, and events.

University News Release (through University Relations)

University news releases provide the greatest coverage. Links to these stories will appear on the WIU home page as well as on the CBT home page and each department/school home page. WIU's University Relation's office prepares news/feature stories for distribution to newspapers, radio and television stations, wire services, specialty publications, and other outlets, as well as the University News bulletin board, the University's website, and social media outlets.

WIU Home Page Feature

Located in the lower right section of the WIU home page, candidates for a home page feature can include events, news items, and interesting topics - essentially anything involving the University that appeals to a wide campus audience. Priority will be given to those items that appeal to prospective students and current students.

Submissions should be received 3-4 weeks in advance of the appearance date(s). Last minute requests are unlikely to be accepted-especially during the fall and spring semesters.

Photo Opportunites

CBT is always in need of new photos for the website and for print materials (Ex: student interactive classroom or outdoor activites, business students professionally dressed). CBT will contact WIU's Visual Production Center and schedule a photographer.

Campus Connection (employee newsletter)

Campus Connection is produced by the Office of University Relations at Western Illinois University. With the exception of the first month of each semester, the Campus Connection employee newsletter, viewed by faculty, staff, WIU alumni, and retirees, is published the first and third Friday during fall and spring semester when the University in in session and approximately twice during the summer.

Electronic submission of material is preferred, either through the Campus Connection online submission form or by e-mailing the Connection editor at CampusConnection@wiu.edu. Deadline to submit materials for consideration is 10 a.m. Tuesday of each publication week

Social Networking - Recommended Platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube

Before opening a Social Media account for a department, please read the WIU Social Media Guidelines. If any new social networking account is opened, please advise Barb Arvin so it can be linked to when and where it would be appropriate.
