New Faculty Orientation and Mentoring
Each summer and fall, WIU hosts a new faculty orientation program. This consists of both virtual sessions that begin in late summer and in person sessions the week prior to school starting. In addition, new faculty are matched with a team of mentors who help guide them through their first year.
Virtual Sessions
There will be virtual sessions held via Zoom prior to the orientation. These sessions will assist new faculty with their onboarding processes, and will be delivered via Zoom. Recordings of the sessions will be posted below for those who are unable to attend.

Ongoing Engagement & Mentoring Opportunities
New and unit changing faculty members are invited to continue learning WIU's students, staff, policies and processes as well as best practices in teaching, learning, research and service throughout the year. For this reason, engagement and mentoring opportunities will continue after the orientation. Zoom will be used, when possible, to faciliate remote engagement.
In addition to the meetings listed below, new and unit changing faculty are encouraged to talk with their mentors about specific topics during given months:
August - Western Online and Urgent Questions
September - Academic and community supports for students and faculty
October - Portfolio and service opportunities
November - Mental and emotional health resources
December - Submitting grades and academic policies
