WIU-CSP/Student Services Summer Institute

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University will host the second annual College Student Personnel (CSP)/Student Services Summer Institute for Western's CSP alumni and former student services staff Thursday-Friday, June 26-27 on the WIU-Macomb campus.
The institute is designed to serve the interests of Western Illinois' CSP alumni and staff working in higher education and student development, according to Vice President for Student Services Garry Johnson. The 2008 institute will focus on benchmarking, assessment, online social communities and student emergency notification and student mental health.
Joseph Pica, CEO of Educational Benchmarking, Inc. and former WIU student services staff member, will be this year's keynote speaker. Prior to his career in management, he served as the assistant director of residential programs and facilities at Western. Pica co-founded Educational Benchmarking, Inc. (EBI) in 1994 to provide benchmarking services for MBA education. The company has since branched out to include nursing education, teacher education, fraternity/sorority life, college and university housing, high school students, first year initiatives, engineering education and college union/student centers. In addition to his CEO position at EBI, he serves as a guest lecturer at the Kelley School of Business at the Indiana University, where earned his Ed.D. in higher education administration.
The institute will begin with an 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. June 26 golf outing and lunch at Western's Harry Mussatto Golf Course followed by a 6-8 p.m. welcome reception hosted by Johnson.
The tentative schedule for June 27 includes an 8:30-9:25 a.m. breakfast; morning breakout sessions from 9:30-10:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.-noon; a luncheon and keynote address by Pica from noon-1:15 p.m.; afternoon roundtable sessions from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and 2:35-3:35 p.m.; and a
5-7 p.m. reception and dinner at Magnolia's Restaurant in Macomb.
Institute registration is $30 and includes meals, workshops and shuttle service. The golf outing is $30, including cart, lunch and non-alcoholic beverages; and the dinner reception at Magolia's is $30.
