MACOMB, IL -- Jeffery Darensbourg has been named marketing and outreach librarian for University Libraries at Western Illinois University. He began his duties Jan. 2.

In his role as marketing and outreach librarian, Darensbourg promotes the programs, services and collections of the WIU Libraries, as well as works at the Reference Desk assisting library patrons with research.

"Dr. Darensbourg brings to the University Libraries a wide background of academic and personal interests in music, theology, genealogy and philosophy, as well as an enthusiasm to assist us in creating the libraries' digital services environment," said Phyllis Self, dean of University Libraries.

A Louisiana Creole and native of Baton Rouge, Darensbourg has a broad background in library work. He is a graduate of Wheaton College (IL), Louisiana State University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned his Ph.D. in cognitive science.

"I first visited Macomb about five years ago to see friends who are faculty here, and I liked the community so much that I started to visit more regularly and to think about moving here," Darensbourg said. "I am happy to be working as a WIU faculty member promoting the University's excellent libraries."

Darensbourg can be reached at JU-Darensbourg@wiu.edu or 309/298-3014.
