MACOMB, IL - The renowned musical group Yellowjackets will make a beeline for Western Illinois University Feb. 18 to perform in conjunction with WIUÂ’s Jazz Weekend. Sponsored by the WIU Bureau of Cultural Affairs and Days Inn, the group will deliver a unique blend of jazz, pop and soul at 7:30 p.m. in Western Hall on the WIU campus.

The Yellowjackets debuted in 1981 and achieved critical and popular acclaim, which lodged the album on the Billboard charts for more than five months, reaching No. 1 on various other national jazz charts as well. Fourteen successful albums followed, marking the Yellowjackets as one of the most enduring and successful fusion bands of the past two decades.

With a flexible and funky rhythm section anchored by bassist Jimmy Haslip and drummer Will Kennedy, the Yellowjackets are able to seamlessly straddle the rhythm and blues/jazz divide and navigate keyboardist Russell Ferrante's challenging compositions. The quartet maintains the all-important groove with the help of saxophonist Bob Mintzer.

Tickets are $16, $14 and $12 for the public and $13, $11 and $9 for WIU students with I.D. Call 309/298-1254 for tickets.
