WIU ROTC Welcomes Jared M. Thurman for Embassy Conversation

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) welcomes back Jared M. Thurman, WIU alum and retired foreign service officer, for a presentation from 2:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, in Horrabin Hall room 103.
Thurman will discuss the intersection of the Department of Defense and the Department of State in the embassy environment, emphasizing building foreign security service capacity. He will provide an overview of the standard embassy Task Organization, working groups and key decision-making bodies.
Thurman joined the Diplomatic Security Services' Office of Human Resources in 2023, most recently serving in the International Programs Directorate as the Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa and South and Central Asian regions. He also worked in the Domestic Operations Directorate's Major Events Unit. In this capacity, he helped plan the Department of State and interagency security support during the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara and the 2012 London Olympic Games.
