MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University senior Christopher Foltz has been elected to fill the first vice chairperson seat for the Illinois College Republican Federation (ICRF).

According to Foltz, a communication major from Rockford, he is the first Western student to hold an executive position in the ICRF. Foltz will run for the federation's state chairperson position at the ICRF convention March 8-9. If elected to this position, he will be in charge of Illinois Youth for Bush and will represent Illinois at the National College Republican Committee and the Republic National Committee conventions. He would also work with State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, the chair of the Illinois Republican Party.

In addition to his position with the ICRF, he is the executive vice chair of the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) Student Advisory Committee. The IBHE's Student Advisory committee is responsible for representing the ideals and concerns of the students of Illinois, serving as the chief liaison between students and the IBHE.

On campus, Foltz is a member of Delta Chi fraternity, most recently serving as president; is the fraternal relations chair for the Inter-Fraternity Council; and was a member of the 2002 Homecoming Committee and Western's Debate Team. He is also the chair of Western's College Republican chapter, a member of the Macomb Kiwanis and is the senior consultant/owner of The Itok Group, a political consulting agency. Foltz is also currently spearheading a fundraising campaign to raise $90,000 total -- $30,000 for each organization -- for Western's College Republican chapter, Delta Chi and the Illinois College Republican Fundraiser.

In 2000, Foltz was selected to represent WIU's College of Arts and Sciences and political science department as a Washington Center participant at the Republican National Convention. The two-week academic event allowed Foltz to travel side-by-side with now-President George W. Bush during Bush's Whistlestop Tour. Foltz has also served as Western's Student Government Association's government liaison.
