Area Students Take Part in Accounting Challenge

MACOMB, IL - - Area high school students demonstrated their financial accounting knowledge at Western Illinois University recently at the 12th annual Accounting Challenge.

Sponsored by WIU's accountancy department, Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) and the Illinois CPA Society, the event not only provided area students a chance to showcase their accounting skills through a written competition, but it also provided them with information about Western's accountancy department and College of Business and Technology. For the annual event, 10 area high schools and a total of 71 students competed. Western awarded scholarships to each first, second and third place individual winner choosing to major in accounting at WIU.

The participating schools were Macomb, Galesburg, Canton, Knoxville, Spoon River Valley, Rushville-Industry, Williamsfield, Hamilton, Hillsboro and United.

Division II

First Place (three-way tie): Dakota Keeffer and Madison Lynn, Macomb; Chase Stranz, Canton
Second Place: (two-way tie): Micah Flores and Zak Piper, Macomb
Third Place: Cole Baker, Macomb

First Place:
Madeline Harrison, Spoon River Valley
Second Place (four-way tie): Olivia Bishop, United; Reid Pfeirerling and Skyler McKay, Hamilton; and Nicole Boyd, Hillsboro
Third Place: Megan Loveland, Spoon River Valley
