MACOMB, IL – To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Land Grant Act, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation are offering discounts to alumni of Western Illinois University.

The offer, which expires Sept. 3, begins Sunday, July 1 and is being extended to alumni of all colleges and universities in the United States. The discount includes $5 off a $12 admission to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum/Foundation; $10 off lower-level memberships and $15 off higher-level memberships.

The promotion is planned to commemorate Lincoln's July 2, 1862 signing of the Morrill Act, which helped establish the system of land-grant universities in the U.S. The act gave every state in the union 30,000 acres of public land for every member of its Congressional delegation.

In turn, the states sold the land parcels and used the proceeds to establish colleges for engineering, agriculture and military science.

Those who would like to use the discount can submit an information form about their college at the museum, which includes the name of the University, graduation year and home address questions.
