MACOMB, IL - For those seeking help in studying for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam, the Western Illinois University Department of Accounting and Finance, in partnership with CPAexcel, is offering a CPA review course, beginning Friday, Jan. 20.

The review course includes Friday and Saturday sessions with in-class instructional videos, instructor reviews of practice questions, as well as supplemental online course, review books, software and a set of flash cards.

While a review course typically costs $2,000, students attending the WIU class will receive a discounted rate of $1,495.

The review will be held most Friday evenings, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. In addition, the review meets most Saturday mornings and afternoons beginning at 9 a.m.

In January, the review will cover Business and Environment Concepts (BEC). Regulations (REG) will be covered in February. Financial Accounting and Reporting coverage will begin at the end of February and Auditing and Attestation (AUD) coverage will begin in April. The review concludes May 5.

According to Gregg S. Woodruff, associate professor of accountancy in the department of accounting and finance, the instructor led CPA review course provides candidates with the discipline needed to successfully complete the CPA exam.

"While preparing for the CPA exam is challenging, making the effort as a member of a group has proven to help candidates stay motivated and keep going with their review studies," said Woodruff.

"The CPA certificate and license are essential credentials in today's accounting and business environment," he said. "Passing the exam and becoming a CPA is not only a source of pride for the individual, but should also result in increased job opportunities and a career path that can lead to promotions and higher salaries."

Those interested in the review course should contact Woodruff at or call (309) 298-1152 for more information.
