MACOMB, IL -- Ann Comerford has been named director of the Western Illinois University Office of Student Activities (OSA), effective June 1, according to Vice President for Student Services Garry Johnson.

Comerford has served as interim OSA director since July 1, 2006. Prior to that, she had served as the associate director of the Office of Student Activities since April 2005. Comerford joined the OSA staff in 1999 as assistant director for leadership programs. Prior to coming to Western, Comerford worked at Quincy University in campus activities, residence life and special programs. She is a member of the Illinois College Personnel Association, the American College Personnel Association, Association of College Unions International and National Association of Campus Activities.

"Ann has done an exceptional job this year as interim director," said Al Harris, assistant vice president for student services. "We look forward to her continued leadership of student activities."

She earned her bachelor's degree in political science from Quincy University (1991) and her master's degree in education with an emphasis in college student personnel from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (1999).

"Ann's experience will allow her to continue Student Activities' tradition of excellence and service to students," added Johnson. "Ann was just named the Council of Administrative Personnel (COAP) Employee of the Year, which demonstrates how well-respected she is by her colleagues across campus."

As director of the Office of Student Activities, Comerford is responsible for developing, administering and evaluating programs and services for the Division of Student Services, specifically in the department of Student Activities, which includes, but not limited to: Leadership and Student Organization Services, Campus Programming, Greek Life Programs, Volunteer Services, Multicultural Services, and Western Technical Services. She also coordinates the leadership, planning and policy development for the student life co-curriculum and serves as the adviser for the Student Government Association, the Council on Student Information Technology and the Council on Student Activities Funds.
