MACOMB - George Marshall Ward, 72, of Macomb, former associate registrar at Western Illinois University, died Dec.13 at his residence. He was born July 14, 1933 in Monmouth (IL).

He is survived by his wife Patricia, two sons, Scott (and Marilyn) Ward of Zionville, IN; Roger (and Lisa) Ward of Macomb, one daughter Ann (and Todd) Lester of Macomb, four grandchildren and one brother, James Ward of Monmouth.

Ward, who served 10 years in the U.S. Air Force, joined Western in 1964 as a faculty assistant in the School of Business. He was named assistant registrar in 1967 and associate registrar in 1969. He also was named director of foreign student admissions in 1981. Ward was a pioneer in changing student record maintenance from paper to computer-based, and he is considered the author of Western Illinois’ automated record system which was named in his honor - - the WARD report (Western’s Audit of Requirements for Degrees). In 1991, George Ward was presented Western’s Alumni Achievement Award.

Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 18 from 3-5 p.m. at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, 201 W. Carroll St., Macomb.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19 at the First Christian Church, 120 N. MacArthur St., Macomb, with Rev. Steve Workman officiating. There will be a Masonic Service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Rites by Macomb VFW and American Legion.
