Anika Singh Memorial Scholarship Established
October 4, 2005

MACOMB, IL The Anika Singh Memorial Scholarship at Western Illinois University has been established by her parents Mandeep Singh and Sujata Karkare. Anika was seven years old when she passed away earlier this year.
This scholarship is created to honor the indomitable spirit of our seven year old daughter who gave far more than she ever received, said Singh, who is director of Faculty Development at WIU and is a marketing and finance professor, and Karkare, a staff physician at Beu Health Center. While her journey was brief, her mark is everlasting. We will always cherish her.
The scholarship endowment, when fully funded, will provide a scholarship to a student of at least junior standing at Western Illinois University with a minimum grade point average of 3.25 and a demonstrated commitment to community service. Recipients will also need to show a vision articulating the need and importance of public service. The first recipient will be selected during Spring 2006 and will receive a $500 scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year.
We deeply appreciate Mandeep and Sujatas kind and generous contribution to WIU in memory of their daughter, said Brad Bainter, WIU Foundation director of planned and major giving. Just as Anika was a giving child, this scholarship in her name will assist students every year and allow her memory to carry on.
Contributions in Anikas memory can be made by sending donations to the WIU Foundation, 303 Sherman Hall, Macomb, IL 61455-1390. Checks should be made payable to the WIU Foundation. Gifts may also be made online at https://www.wiu.com/giving/.
