Cinco De Pie-Yo Raising Money for This Year's Heritage Days Celebration

MACOMB, IL – A fundraising pie and cake auction for Macomb's Heritage Days celebration will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 5, at the Macomb American Legion, 221 E. Washington St.
The second annual Cinco De Pie-Yo will include a pie and cake auction and competition to raise money for the annual June celebration. The theme for this year's Heritage Days event is "Saluting our Institutions of Higher Education."
Western Illinois University will have a booth at this year's event, celebrating the town and gown relationship between the University and Macomb. This year will mark the 41st year of Heritage Days.
The organizing committee is seeking donations of homemade pies and cakes, which will be auctioned off by local auctioneers Kyle Kelso, Monte Lowderman and Scott Schwerer.
Baked goods can be dropped off at the Macomb American Legion between 3-4:30 p.m. Friday, May 5. Judging will be held from 4:30-5:15 p.m., winners will be announced at 5:15 p.m. and the auction begins at 5:30 p.m.
One first place winner will be chosen from each category, with a grand champion named from the group of first place winners. Pies, judged on appearance, flavor and texture, can be entered in the categories of apple, berry, cherry, cream, miscellaneous, peach, pecan, pumpkin and strawberry.
Cakes will be judged in the categories of tasted and decorated – tasted cakes will be judged on appearance, flavor and texture and decorated cakes will be judged on appearance only.
