Housing Renewal Begins Friday at WIU
January 24, 2023
MACOMB, IL – Housing renewal for current WIU students wishing to live on campus for the 2023-2024 academic year begins Friday, Jan. 27.
Students were emailed their individual renewal times and instructions earlier this week. Based on where students wish to live, and the number of semester hours accrued, students will be assigned renewal times on the following schedule:
- Same hall/same room (for qualified students): Starts Friday, Jan. 27 - Monday, Jan. 30
- Group moves: One day only - Wednesday, Feb. 1
- Graduate student/seniors: Starts Thursday, Feb. 2
- Juniors: Starts Friday, Feb. 3
- Sophomores: Starts Monday, Feb. 6
- Freshmen: Starts Tuesday, Feb. 7 - Wednesday, Feb. 8
- Open Renewal: Thursday, Feb. 9 - Tuesday, Feb. 28
University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) will offer students the opportunity to request a group move. Groups of six or more students (in even increments of the same gender) can request housing on the same residence hall floor and can begin the renewal process Wednesday, Feb. 1.
In addition to group moves, UHDS is offering a variety of other options for students renewing to campus, which include:
• Free parking pass for the Fall 2023 – Spring 2024 academic year for junior, senior or graduate students (defined by 60+ credit hours by Sept. 6) who sign up for campus housing by Feb. 28
• The 21+ community in Washington Hall
• Semester contracts for students who are student teaching, doing an internship, studying abroad or graduating
• Open Housing, which allows sophomores and above, regardless of sex, gender or gender identity, to share a room in Corbin Hall
• Living Learning Communities for students to connect and live on the same floor with others who share the same interests or major
A new Living Learning Community has been introduced this year, titled Public Safety. Public safety is at the heart of every community. Students choosing to live within this environment have a chance to connect, share interests, succeed academically, and enhance the future communities they serve. With innovative technology, programs, and chances to interact with faculty and their peers across the public safety careers, this community provides lifelong friendships, direct academic support, and mentorship.
More information about all LLCs at WIU can be found at wiu.edu/student_success/housing/themed_communities/index.php.
Students who renew their housing contract during the housing renewal campaign (Jan. 27 – Feb. 28) will also be entered into a drawing to win $100 in meal plan points towards their meal plan for the 2023-2024 academic year. The student must renew before February 28. UHDS will announce one winner after the renewal campaign has concluded.
Students who are not required to live on campus, and wish to cancel their housing contract, must do so by Monday, March 1 to avoid a contract breakage fee equal to the double room rate.
