Lawson Named WIU Registrar

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Sarah Lawson, interim associate registrar at Western Illinois University, has been named WIU registrar, effective Jan. 1, 2022.

Lawson has served as interim associate registrar at WIU since May 1. In this role, she works with the Division of Academic Affairs to ensure COVID-19 protocols were in place within classroom settings; serves as the Office of Registrar representative for admissions appeals; and ensures military admissions assistance. As the director of registration (admissions/records supervisor), a position held since July 2008, Lawson oversees the operation of the online student information systems; supervises space management; and registration/scheduling systems.

She has served as an admissions/records officer from 2005-2008 in the Office of Registrar Before joining the office, she was a chief clerk in Extended Learning from 2002-2005. She also worked as a temporary clerical assistant in the Office of Financial Aid in 2002.

"Ms. Lawson's many years serving in administrative roles within the Office of the Registrar will provide continuity for the office and continued outstanding service for our students," said Interim Provost Billy Clow.

Lawson received her master's and bachelor's degrees from WIU.

The Registrar is responsible for maintaining and certifying student records, registration, schedule development and implementation, online registration, academic records, instructional room scheduling and classroom assignments, transfer credit certification, tracking student progress, grade distribution, serving as the chief compliance officer for the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, University Commencement and the academic calendar.
