Chief Human Resource Officer Interviews Set

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Interviews for the Western Illinois University Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) position will be held via Zoom Tuesday, April 20; Wednesday, April 21; and Friday, April 23.

Candidates include Kevin Vedder, associate vice president of human resources, Salisbury (MD) University, Monday, April 20; William Hodson, senior organizational development adviser, Mayo Clinic; Wednesday, April 21; and Lionel Sweeney, partner/consultant, H/S Consulting (Elgin, IL), Friday, April 23.

Open sessions with various University constituency/governance groups will be held via Zoom. Members of the groups will receive an email invitation, which will include the Zoom link.

Vedder has served as the associate vice president of human resources at Salisbury University since 2017. Previously, he was the senior director of organizational effectiveness at Purdue University from 2015-2017. He also served in numerous other capacities at Purdue since 1988, including the director of organizational change management, director of the Human Resources Service Center, assistant director of the Human Resources Shared Service Center and a consultant, team leader and specialist.

Vedder received his master's degree from University of Maryland Global Campus and his bachelor's degree from Indiana State University.

Hodson has served as the senior organizational development adviser at Mayo Clinic since January 2020. Previous, he was the director of HR Advisory at Mayo from 2015-2020. He also served in other capacities at Mayo since 2012 including the manager of Human Resources and senior service partner. Hodson has served as director of Human Resources (2003-2011), an adjunct instructor and interim director of Career Services at Indiana University since 2003. He also worked in human resources in private industry from 1993-2003.

Hodson received his master's degree from Indiana University and his bachelor's degree from California State University.

Sweeney has served as a partner/consultant with H/S Consulting since 2017 and an adjunct instructor at Roosevelt University since 2018. Previously, he was the senior vice president of Human Resources-North American Region for Hinduja Global Solutions in Lisle (IL) from 2014-2017. He has also served as a partner/consultant with H/S Consulting in Chicago (2012-2013), as vice president of Human Resources for Suzlon Wind Energy Corp. in Chicago (2009-2012) and has hele other human resources positions in private industry from 1998-2007.

Sweeney received his Ph.D. from the University of Benedictine and his master's and bachelor's degrees from University of Texas at Dallas and University of North Texas, respectively.

Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA), the Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) serves as a key partner with University leadership and sets the overall strategic vision for Human Resources. The CHRO has oversight and responsibility for all talent acquisition and development, oversees benefits and labor relations, promotes a highly diverse and high functioning work force, coordinates development and assimilation of University Human Resource policies and procedures and identifies trends and innovations in all aspects of Human Resources.
