Dear University Community,

While Pride Month is celebrated annually each June in remembrance of the Stonewall uprising, Western Illinois University will celebrate Pride Month throughout April to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had at WIU throughout the years.

The WIU LGBT*QA Resource Center, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Multicultural Center and other University programs and departments have several activities scheduled to commemorate Pride Month. More information about the activities and events scheduled during April can be found at bit.ly/WIUPrideMonth2021.

WIU is committed to providing an affirming and supportive environment for our LGBTQ+ students, faculty and staff, both on campus and in the community. We seek equity for all students and stand against all forms of discrimination. The LGBT*QA Resource Center, Unity, UCOSOGIE and the Queer Studies minor are just a few of the resources we offer our University, and the broader, community. You can find more information at wiu.edu/student_services/mcc/lgbtqa/.

Thank you to those University students and employees who have worked tirelessly over the years to ensure support for our LGBTQ+ community, and for all underrepresented members of our University community. I will continue to uphold Western's dedication to diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Thank you.

Guiyou Huang
President
Western Illinois University
