MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – The new academic year at Western Illinois University will kick off with a virtual University Assembly beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. To adhere to social distancing and social gathering (of less than 50) protocols, the event will be livestreamed on the president's Facebook page and YouTube Channel. Invitations will be sent to select campus constituency group representatives to attend in person (masks are required, and social distancing measures will be in place).

All members of the Macomb and the Quad Cities campuses are encouraged to watch the livestream.

"I am pleased to be able to welcome everyone for this fall semester at Western Illinois University. A great deal of preparation has gone into developing our plan to provide a quality educational experience for all of our students, while protecting the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff," said Interim President Martin Abraham. "Last year, I set out an agenda for us to increase enrollment and retention, and to improve our efforts surrounding diversity, inclusion and racial justice initiatives. I am looking forward to sharing our achievements in those areas, as well as providing a preview of several initiatives that I will be proposing for the upcoming year. We have made great progress, and with your continued support, we have a great future ahead of us."
