MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University alumnus and World's Fittest Man Joe Decker '98, and his wife, Nicole, will host an "encore," live virtual boot camp workout at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 21.

The workout will kick off the WIU Alumni Association's Virtual Alumni & Friends Events Series and is free and open to everyone. This is the Decker's second workout for WIU this month; the first coming during WIU's Purple and Gold Day of Caring to help the University raise funds for the Student Emergency Fund.

"We're always happy to support WIU," said Decker. "This is a great way to kick off the long Memorial Day weekend in a healthy way with a fun workout that can be as challenging as YOU want it to be and will accommodate all fitness levels. We look forward to a great workout with our Leatherneck family."

Pre-registration is not required but by doing so, it will be added to your calendar. To pre-register, or to join the workout on Zoom the day of the event, visit bit.ly/3bKvCT9.

Decker was named the World's Fittest Man in 2000 by the Guinness Book of World Records after he completed a 24-hour physical fitness challenge. He received his degree from WIU in exercise science, donated winnings from his appearance as a contestant on "The Weakest Link" to establish a scholarship in his mother's honor and to support faculty research, received the WIU Alumni Achievement Award in 2004 and volunteers his time and expertise to WIU regularly. He and his wife now own Gut Check Fitness in San Diego, CA.

More events in the series will be announced soon. For more information, email a-association@wiu.edu, visit wiu.edu/alumni or call 309-298-1914. Contributions are still being accepted for the Student Emergency Fund at app.mobilecause.com/e/Tmarrg?vid=8ee90.
