MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – As Western Illinois University continues to prepare for a traditional campus experience for Fall 2020, scholarship incentives and more are available for incoming new freshmen and transfer students. WIU operates on a "rolling deadline," which means prospective students can apply any time at wiu.edu/apply. Prospective students can apply to WIU for free through June 30.

To support current high school seniors who are unable to take or retake a Spring 2020 SAT/ACT, and current high school juniors who may be unable to take an ACT/SAT test at this time due to the pandemic, students who earn a high school diploma and have a 2.75 or higher high school grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) will be automatically admitted to WIU. Students with a GPA less than 2.75, but at least 2.0, may be asked to submit additional information.

While campus visits currently can't be held in person due to the Stay at Home order, WIU Undergraduate Admissions has tailored its daily and group visit programs into the virtual environment (wiu.edu/visit/virtual.php). Through videos and online meeting appointments, Admissions staff continues to meet with prospective students and their families to showcase WIU, and virtual orientation sessions for students entering WIU this fall will begin May 27.

Western's new Leatherneck Visitor Scholarship gives incoming freshmen and transfers a one-time $1,000 award if they attend a virtual WIU Undergraduate Admissions event for either the Macomb or Quad Cities campus. See more at (wiu.edu/visit/virtual.php).

Another change for incoming freshmen is an enhanced Western Commitment (WC) Scholarship program, which automatically awards $3,000-8,000 each year to incoming freshmen with excellent academic ability and achievement in high school. In addition, Western has revised the transfer scholarship program, increasing the award to $2,500 and making the scholarship available for part-time students.

For students from Brown, Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough, Schuyler or Warren counties, the Local Leatherneck Housing Scholarship provides a one-time $3,000 award towards an on-campus residence hall room to incoming full-time freshmen from the western Illinois region. New freshmen who are the children and grandchildren of WIU graduates automatically qualify for the $1,500 WIU Legacy Scholarship, and those new students from the Chicago and St. Louis regions have specific scholarships in place as well.

More information on WIU scholarships (automatic and donor designated application-based scholarships) can be found at wiu.edu/scholarships. Prospective freshmen and transfers interested in being considered for the automatic scholarships available at WIU can apply at wiu.edu/apply.
