WIU Archives Announces Online Abraham Lincoln Collection
February 11, 2020
MACOMB, IL -- In celebration of President Abraham Lincoln's birthday, the Western Illinois University Archives announces its online Abraham Lincoln Collection.
Last year, Julia Thompson of the Malpass Digitization Department, approached Archives staff about putting some of its rare books online for patrons.
"We were hoping to get it up last year, but we ran into some glitches," said Thompson. "The public may not be familiar with some of these works; it is our hope that this new online collection helps expose people to more sources about Abraham Lincoln."
Included are "Life and Public Services of Abraham Lincoln," "Political Debates Between Lincoln and Douglas," "Menard-Salem Lincoln Souvenir Album," "Lincoln in Caricature" (1903 and 1945) and "Abraham Lincoln as Attorney for the Illinois Central Railway Company."
These rare books from the WIU Archives about the 16th president are now "live" on the CARLI Digital Collections at bit.ly/2ONXRYC.
Additions to the online collection will be made as time permits.
The WIU Archives and Special Collections is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For more information, including more online items, visit the Archives website at wiu.edu/libraries/archives.
