MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University students are returning home for the holidays, but for one WIU undergraduate that saying has special meaning this year.

Senior art education major Sarah Warner, of Peoria, IL, was selected by her instructors to paint a winter-themed picture for the annual WIU Foundation holiday card. The finished product is an original watercolor painting of a snowy campus scene of Simpkins Hall.

"I am grateful to have been given this opportunity to work with the WIU Foundation for this year's holiday card," said Warner. "I am glad I am able to share my art with our WIU alumni and friends."

Warner teaches in the community in the art program and at Carthage Elementary School each year. She is a member of the WIU women's rugby team and president of Kappa Pi, the art honor society. Upon graduating in Fall 2020, Warner hopes to get a job teaching art for K-12.

"The beautiful watercolor by Sarah highlights the quality work done by students in the WIU art program," said Brad Bainter, executive officer of the WIU Foundation. "Each year, we select a student in our art program to design and create the Foundation's holiday card and each one captures an aspect of the beauty of WIU's campus. We appreciate Sarah's talent and the extensive time she spent on this year's artwork."

The original piece will be on display in the Foundation office following the holiday break.
