MACOMB, IL – A performance of "Moonlight and Magnolias" by the Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance will run Wednesday-Sunday, Oct. 23-27 in the Horrabin Hall Theatre. The Wednesday-Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday performance begins at 2 p.m.

The play, directed by Theatre and Dance Professor DC Wright, is about 1939 Hollywood. Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, "Gone with the Wind," a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's novel.

"Sure, you know "Gone With The Wind," but did you know that at one point the producer fired the original director after three weeks, pulled the director off 'The Wizard of Oz' to take over as the new 'Gone With The Wind' director, hired a new screenwriter-who had never read the book-and locked the three of them in his office for five days," said Wright. He would only let them eat bananas and peanuts (creative brain food!) and the director and producer acted out scenes from the book and the writer turned them into the script of one of the biggest Hollywood films of all time. You didn't know all that, did you? Come see the hilariously fast paced 'Moonlight and Magnolias' to see the story behind the story of 'Gone With The Wind.'"

Wright said the cast has been working really hard on the production, while still having fun in rehearsals.

"The small intimate cast size has really generated a great sense of ensemble, and that in turn has motivated us all to bring our best efforts to bear," he said.

General admission to the play is $15, while senior citizens and youth are $13 and WIU students will be admitted free with valid student identification.
