MACOMB, IL – Early Bird Housing Renewal for Western Illinois University students opens Monday, Oct. 14 for students with residence hall contracts.

The renewal period is a chance for students to choose their room and roommate early for the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 academic year. Sophomore, junior, senior and graduate students may participate in Early Bird Renewal; however, freshmen who participated in four of the five First Year Experience (FYE) events may also participate.

Renewal opportunities include:

• Same Hall/Same Room Week - Monday, Oct. 14 – Friday, Oct. 18

Students who are eligible and want to stay in their current room may renew their housing contract by visiting the front office in Seal Hall or finding a housing staff member at one of our many tabling events throughout the week located in Thompson, Corbin-Olson, Grote and the Union at various times.

• Open Renewal - Monday, Oct. 21 - Friday, Nov. 22
Students must visit the front office in Seal Hall to renew their housing contract.

• The 2020-2021 Early Bird Housing Contract Cancellation Deadline: Monday, Dec. 2.

Students who are eligible to live off campus and need to cancel their early bird housing contract for the 2020-2021 academic year must do so by Dec. 2 to avoid a contract breakage fee (equal to a double room rate).

University Housing and Dining Services are offering a variety of options and incentives to those students who participate in Early Bird Housing Renewal including:

• Exclusive WIU crew neck sweatshirt
Each student will receive an exclusive crew neck sweatshirt by renewing their housing contract before Dec. 2. Contract cancellations at any time will result in a charge back of $75 for the sweatshirt.

• A $1,000 credit

• Open to juniors, seniors and graduate students who renew their housing contract to Lincoln or Washington Hall before Dec. 2. Students qualify only if they reach 60 credit hours by Sept. 8, 2020. Credit is dispersed as $500 per semester. The $1,000 credit will not be available during renewal in the spring.

• 21+ community available in Washington Hall.

• Semester contracts available for those students who will be student teaching, leaving for an internship, studying abroad or graduating.

• LLCs (Living Learning Communities)

• Corbin will house one Broadcasting, Journalism and Fine Arts floor (Corbin 5).

• The international floor will continue to be on Olson 8.

• Lincoln will house the following LLCs: Agriculture, Class (FYE) and STEM.

• Thompson will house the following LLCs: Honors, ROTC and Transfer Year Experience (TYE).

• Washington will house the following LLCs: Broadcasting, Journalism and Fine Arts (FYE) and Business Studies.

• Those students who can't or don't want to participate in Early Bird Renewal will still have an opportunity to renew their housing contracts during spring renewal in February-March. If a student really wants to live in their same hall and same room their currently in, it is highly suggested they participate in Early Bird Renewal or their room may become unavailable to renew to in the spring.

For more information, students can call (309) 298-3000, email housing@wiu.edu, visit the front office in Seal Hall or visit wiu.edu/livelifeon.
