MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University and Macomb communities are invited to attend the 15th annual Big Picture event Friday, Sept. 13 in conjunction with the LGBTQ*A picnic. The Big Picture is held each year as a show of support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, faculty, staff and community members.

The Big Picture event will begin at 4:30 p.m. on the Multicultural Center lawn, with the formal picture being taken promptly at 4:45 p.m. (individuals interested in taking part in the Big Picture should be there no later than 4:35 p.m.). All members or allies of the LGBTQ*A community, including family and friends, are invited to take part in the photograph. The LGBTQ*A/Unity picnic, which is also open to the campus community, will begin at 4:45 p.m. In addition to the Macomb event, students, faculty and staff at the WIU-Quad Cities campus will gather at 10 a.m. Sept. 13, outside Building C under the clock tower, for the WIU-QC Big Picture event.

Unity, the student organization for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, and asexual (LGBTQ*A) community on the Macomb campus, hosts several events each year to raise awareness. Western's University Committee on Sexual Orientation, and Gender Identity and Expression (UCOSOGIE) has been raising awareness on campus for 30 years, with a mission to provide support, advocacy and education to the WIU community regarding issues impacting the lives of the LGBTQ*A population.

During the 2019-20 academic year, numerous programs and events will be sponsored by UCOSOGIE, the LGBTQ*A Resource Center, and Unity, from Camp Out! to celebrate National Coming Out Day Oct. 18-Oct. 19, to Trans Week from Nov. 18-22 and Trans Day of Remembrance Nov. 20 and a book club happening throughout the semester. To stay updated on current events, visit the LGBTQA Resource Center Facebook page.

Questions can be directed to the LGBTQ*A Resource Center at lgbtqa@wiu.edu or (309) 298-4004 or to UNITY at unity@wiu.edu.
