WIU Alumnus Named to Agricultural Post

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University alumnus Jay Solomonson has been named the District 1 program advisor for the Facilitating Coordination in Agricultural Education (FCAE) Project.
 
Solomonson is a 2002 graduate WIU, with a degree in agriculture, with a teaching certification. For the past 17 years, he has been an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Orion High School in Orion, IL.
 
He will officially begin the new position July 22 at the FCAE District 1 Field Office in Moline, IL.
 
The FCAE project is funded through the Illinois Agricultural Education Line Item through the Illinois State Board of Education. Solomonson's position will include working with others to develop a comprehensive, statewide plan for the improvement of agricultural education in Illinois' schools. Additionally, he will provide on-site and remote assistance to agricultural educators throughout northwest Illinois, as well as professional development opportunities to teachers throughout the state.

"I am excited about this new opportunity and look forward to serving the agricultural teachers in District 1," said Solomonson.
 
At WIU, Solomonson was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, Collegiate FFA, Ag Vocators and the Ag Mech Club.
