MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees voted on 2019-2020 tuition, fees, room and meal plan rates at its March 29 Board meeting on the Macomb campus.

The 2019-2020 tuition rate for all incoming domestic U.S. undergraduate students will be set at $8,883 annually ($296.10 per credit hour, based on 30 credit hours, an increase of $11.40/credit hour). The 2019-2020 tuition rate for new U.S. graduate students will be $339.82 per credit hour. As part of the BOT approval, the distance education charge of $50/credit hour will be eliminated for all new students beginning Fall 2019.

The 2019-2020 room and meal plan for new students will be $9,800. The 2019-2020 Macomb campus fees for new students, based on 30 credit hours annually, will be $2,783.40 ($92.78/credit hour). The Quad Cities fee rate will remain at $746.40 annually ($24.88/credit hour).

The tuition, fees, room and meal plan increases are the first since Fall 2015; however, the WIU Cost Guarantee program ensures that students will pay the same rate for tuition, fees, room and meal plan for their four years of continuous enrollment. Western's Cost Guarantee is the only public university program in Illinois that provides no increases in room and meal plan, in addition to the Illinois statutory requirement of guaranteed four-year tuition rates. Western Illinois also offers the Cost Guarantee to graduate students enrolled in a degree program, as well as to transfer students earning an associate's degree.

Western's Promise Plus, which is part of the state's AIM HIGH funding program, goes a step beyond other schools' "promise" programs. The WIU Promise Plus not only significantly reduces or offsets tuition and fees, but also other costs – room, meal plan, books and course materials – for new freshmen enrolling in Fall 2019. Illinois students with a minimum of a 1060 SAT or 21 ACT and a 2.75 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale are considered for WIU's Promise Plus program.

The Board also approved an annual rate of $1,590/year for student health insurance, which is a decrease of 5.58 percent.

In other business, the Board also elected officers for March 29 through June 30, 2019. Greg Aguilar was voted chair, Nick Padgett was elected vice chair and Jackie Thompson was voted secretary.

In addition, the Board approved the Auxiliary Facilities System Repair and Replacement Reserve for Debt Service; the honorary doctorate award to WIU Alumnus Samuel N. Oliva (a separate release will be issued); and the 2019-2020 meeting schedule.

The next Board meeting will be held June 13-14 at the WIU-Quad Cities campus in Moline.
