MACOMB, IL – Live Life On….#GetARoom.

Housing renewal for current Western Illinois University students wishing to live on campus for the 2019-20 academic year begins Friday, Jan. 18. Students will receive their individual renewal time by email 24 hours before their assigned time. Based on where students wish to live, and the number of semester hours accrued, students will be assigned renewal times on the following schedule:

- Same hall/same room (for qualified students): Jan. 18-22
- Group moves: Jan. 24-25
- Graduate student/seniors: Jan. 28
- Juniors: Jan. 29
- Sophomores: Jan. 30
- Freshmen: Jan. 31-Feb. 1
- Open Renewal: Feb. 4-28

Again this year, University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) will offer students the opportunity to request a group move. Groups of six or more students can request housing on the same residence hall floor and can begin the renewal process Thursday-Friday, Jan. 24-25.

In addition to group moves, UHDS is offering a variety of other incentives for students renewing to campus, which include:

• $1,000 credit ($500/semester) for any junior, senior or graduate student who renews to campus before Aug. 16, living in Lincoln and Washington Halls

• Community for students ages 21 or older

• Open Housing, which allows sophomores and above, regardless of sex, gender or gender identity, to share a room or suite in Corbin Hall

• Semester contracts for students who are student teaching, doing an internship, studying abroad or graduating

• Optional meal plans for those who renew to Lincoln or Washington Halls before March 1

"When listening to the reasons students decide to move off campus, we knew we needed to be more competitive and creative when it came down to the housing accommodations we offer in the residence halls," said UHDS Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications Kirsten Todd. "We hope that the variety of options we have developed will provide students more flexibility as they make their housing decisions for the 2019-20 academic year."

Throughout the renewal campaign, UHDS will also be sponsoring a door contest, where all students will receive a special key in their University mailbox that could unlock a mocked up room door in the UHDS central office, located in Seal Hall. Students are encouraged to bring their key to the housing office anytime between the hours of 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, to see if their key unlocks the door to win a prize. Prizes include, Rocky Dollar gift cards, WIU apparel, Colonel Rock calendars, WIU Bookstore gift cards and more, including the grand prize of a free double room for the 2019-20 academic year.

For anyone wishing to tour a residence hall room before making a decision, UHDS housing ambassadors will host scheduled tours by appointment, which can be scheduled by calling (309) 298-3000 anytime between 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Housing representatives will also be available within the residence halls and in the University Union throughout January and February to answer questions about housing renewal and on-campus living.

Students who are not required to live on campus, and wish to cancel their housing contract, must do so by March 1 to avoid a contract breakage fee equal to the double room rate.
