MACOMB, IL – Kate Pohlpeter, an academic advisor in the WIU Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, has been named the Advisor of the Month for September.

Pohlpeter received 12 student nominations for the award, based on her professionalism and her respectful and caring advising style.

"She values the student's input and makes sure to help us when we are curious about graduate schools," said one student nominator. "She wants to know your grades, but she also wants to know if you're actually learning, what your study habits are and what needs to change to make a difference. She's committed to the point where you know you can rely on her to help you with what you need."

Another student nominator said Pohlpeter has calmed her fears and helped her map out the best path to graduation.

"As odd as it may sound, Kate feels more like our mom than just an academic advisor," the student said. "She helped us get started our freshman year, and has been there by our sides, helping us with our schedules and whatever else we may have needed throughout the years."

Each month, a WIU advisor will be honored with a certificate and trophy. Award winners are decided by a committee that considers the applications each month.
