MACOMB, IL -- Who doesn't like "free" stuff?! Western Illinois University has extended its application fee waiver week through this evening and the response has been overwhelming. Through 11:59 p.m. tonight (Monday, Oct. 8), prospective students can apply to Western at no cost.

According to the WIU Office of Undergraduate Admissions, anyone who submits an application through 11:59 p.m. tonight - through either regular or self-reporting - will have the $30 application fee waived.

New this year, high school seniors may now apply to Western for the Fall 2019 semester, without an official ACT/SAT score (which may be submitted later), with acceptance letters going out within approximately one week of receipt of application. Fall 2018 Discover Western open houses continue, with the program scheduled for Monday, Oct. 8. Other Discover Western Dates include Saturday, Oct. 20 and Monday, Nov. 12. To register, visit wiu.edu/DiscoverWestern.

In addition, students with a minimum high school GPA of 3.0+ and an ACT/SAT score of at least 20-24 (1030-1190) are qualified for an automatic Western Commitment scholarship of $3,000 per year ($12,000 total) at Western Illinois University. Higher scores? Then students will qualify for even greater awards through the updated Western Commitment scholarship for incoming new freshmen, beginning Fall 2019.

WIU's Commitment Scholarships reward students for their academic achievement in high school and potential to succeed in college and beyond. Western Commitment awards are renewable up to eight semesters and up to total direct costs. Current high school seniors this year must apply for admission to the University prior to May 15, 2019 for consideration.

In addition to the Western Commitment and numerous other scholarship opportunities, Western's Cost Guarantee program ensures that the college years are a good investment with the guaranteed four-year rate freeze for tuition, fees, campus housing and meal plan. All new undergraduate students - including transfer students - are automatically included in the plan, and will not see an increase in their direct cost rates over a four-year period. Western was the first university in Illinois to offer this guarantee, and is the only public university in the state to include fees, campus housing and meal plan in that guarantee.
