MACOMB, IL – With more than 325 donors already committing to the Western Illinois University Alumni Plaza, the deadline is approaching to be a part of the initial plaza unveiling.

Those who purchase bricks before Sunday, July 1 will have them included in the Alumni Plaza unveiling during Homecoming 2018.

The Alumni Plaza will include a brick patio, placed outside the north entry of the University Union. Adjoining the plaza will be a Mascot Memorial Plaza, which pays tribute to WIU's live mascot, Colonel Rock.

Both projects are part of the celebration of the University Union's 50th anniversary, which will be marked with events throughout the year.

The plaza project will include the full replacement of the brick pavers, currently located in the circular plaza. New, engraved pavers are being sold so individuals can leave their legacy as part of the University.

Bricks available include:

• Large bricks are 7 inches by 14 inches and can include four lines of text, up to 25 characters per line for $225

• Small bricks are 4 inches by 8 inches and can include three lines of text, up to 16 characters per line for $100

Construction on the plaza will begin this summer, but bricks purchased after July 1 will not be placed into the plaza until Summer 2019.
