MACOMB, IL – University Technology - Administrative Information Management Systems (AIMS) Manager Kevin Markham has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for June at Western Illinois University.

Markham was hired in December 2001 as a digital computer operator II in AIMS. He resigned in March 2004, returning to AIMS in October 2004 in the same position. Over the years, Markham has audited to other positions and finally into his current position of IT Manager, all within the office of AIMS.

According to his nominator, Markham took on a project in human resources to automate a process, which benefits every WIU employee.

"He approaches every challenge with a smile and a 'can do' infectious attitude," said his nominator. "Kevin has had to learn many areas due to the retirement of his supervisor, and throughout all of this he has remained positive and flexible. He is always positive and reassuring when faced with complex challenges."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Christine Staley at CD-Staley@wiu.edu.
