BOT Approves FY19 Spending Plan

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees approved the institution's FY19 preliminary spending plan at its meeting today (June 8) at the WIU-QC campus.

Trustees approved the University's Fiscal Year 2019 preliminary spending plan of $224.3 million. The plan must be prepared prior to July 1 for submission to the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Illinois State Legislature and the Governor.

Board members also approved the implementation of University's Higher Values in Higher Education Higher Values in Higher Education 2017-2022 Strategic Plan.

In other business, as trustees are currently working to update the president's contract, the board voted to table the resolution until a later date.

"We appreciate the work Dr. Thomas has done in light of the difficult circumstances that Western faced over the past few years," said Board Chair Cathy Early.

The Board also approved a five-year contract with Kone Elevator (Peoria, IL) to provide elevator repair and inspection services ($549,000/year); a tuition rate for military personnel who receive federal tuition assistance not to exceed the $250/credit hour as established by the U.S. Armed Forces; and tenure recommendations for 26 faculty members (see separate release). The Board also elected officers (see separate release).

The WIU Board of Trustees will hold a retreat July 12-13 in the Quad Cities. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held Sept. 27-28 on the WIU-Macomb campus.
