WIU's Visual Production Center Expands Services

MACOMB, IL -- When the Visual Production Center began as "Learning Resources" on the Western Illinois University campus in the late 1950s/early 1960s, services were limited to campus photography (using film and the darkroom process) and a graphic arts unit, where sets and other graphic materials were designed and built by hand. Today, VPC is a full service digital photography and large format shop on the WIU-Macomb campus, with numerous services provided to campus and community alike.

From wall clings to window perfs to banners to buttons, and of course, photography, including an extensive online photograph database, VPC's latest products in its broad offerings are customized corn hole boards (including bags), and traditional and removable and reusable stickers and yard signs -- and more -- thanks to the addition of a new roll-to-roll printer/cutter. The latest equipment provides faster workflows, vibrant UV-safe prints and a wider range of application capability, along with precision-cutting for decals, indoor and outdoor banners, posters, signs, vehicle graphics/wraps, wall graphics and more.

Any Western image or logo, or a design of the customer's making, can be mass produced into stickers of any size, banners, vehicle wraps and more, at prices that are competitive with online sources. Cash-and-carry WIU stickers, including bumper stickers, are available for sale at VPC, Tillman 207.

"We are excited to offer another service for our customers at prices that are less expensive than nationally-known companies that produce similar items, and with a relatively quick turnaround to produce," said Darcie Shinberger, director of University Relations and VPC. "Our staff are continually researching products and trends that will provide added levels of service to our customers."

VPC photographic services include sorority/fraternity/student organization composites; indoor and outdoor location photography, including WIU athletic photos; photography for University news releases and publications; original studio photography; images for instructional use; scanning images for publications or for use on the web; passport/ID photos; duplication of archival materials; digital photo restoration; copyright-cleared photographic copies from books and artwork; and photographic prints produced from digital files.

Graphic and large format services include charts; graphs; signs; logos; illustrations; displays; wall clings and window perfs; posters; canvas prints; large format photographic poster prints and banners (retractable/stand-up banners and traditional); and signage, including yard signs. Other services offered include framing; mounting photos or posters to gatorfoam for professional quality display; and lamination to preserve prints, posters or handouts.
