Clyde Cronkhite Obituary

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Law Enforcement and Justice Administration Professor Emeritus Clyde Cronkhite passed away in Rochester, MN Saturday, Oct. 28. Cronkhite also served as the chair of WIU's LEJA department from 1993-1997.

Private graveside services were held at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.

In 1993, Cronkhite came to Western from California after a 30-year career in law enforcement, where he served as a deputy chief of the Los Angeles Police Department and chief of the Santa Ana, CA police department. In addition to teaching, Cronkhite authored several criminal justice textbooks and articles. He received his bachelor's degree from California State University and his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Southern California.

Cronkhite was also actively involved in the community, co-founding the McDonough County Quality of Life Advisory Committee in 1994, to recognize local residents who improve the quality of life in the region. He served as the organization's vice chair and historian.

Cronkhite is survived by his wife, Patricia; one son; two daughters; and five grandchildren.
