MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Chief Clerk Julie Derry has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for November.

Derry was hired at Western in November 2016 in her current position with University Housing and Dining Services.

According to her nominator, Derry demonstrates "enthusiasm and outstanding performance" in carrying out her job duties every day.

"She takes constant initiative to make improvements to her current role and the office she supports," her nominator said. "She has invested extra time in making the most of each responsibility she is given. She is currently working on bringing all student employee records into an electronic system. She has taken it upon herself to learn her supervisor's duties to be able to assist with day-to-day operations and keep things running smoothly. She works with over 300 student employees and handles every situation with a welcoming smile and a helping hand."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Christine Staley at CD-Staley@wiu.edu.
