MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – U.S. 17th District Congresswoman Cheri Bustos will deliver the keynote address for the "Ready to Run® Illinois" training program Saturday, June 3 on the Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Riverfront Campus.

This is the second installment in Illinois of the nonpartisan candidate training program for women. The Illinois program is based at Western Illinois University and is directed by WIU Professor of Political Science and Director of Public Leadership and Outreach Janna Deitz. The national "Ready to Run®" program is part of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University.

"As someone who studies women's political ambition, I have admired the Rutgers training program for a long time," said Deitz. "I was able to bring Ready to Run to Illinois because I met the director of the Center for American Women in Politics while in Washington, DC serving as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow."

Deitz said she was interested in the program because it takes research and puts it into practice by helping women run for all levels of elected office in the best possible ways.

Registration for this year's program is currently sold out, but organizers are gathering a waiting list and planning future program offerings.

This year's program includes the keynote address, panel discussions and political consultants explaining the importance of campaign communications, political parties, press coverage and fundraising. Scheduled speakers include current and former elected officials at the local, state and federal level.
