WIU Accounting Students Place Third at Regional Meeting

MACOMB, IL - - Members of Western Illinois University's Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) chapter recently competed in the BAP Midwest Region Best Practices Competition in Indianapolis, IN. The group brought home a third place award in the Community Outreach category.

Megan Opiekun (Burlington, IA), who is working toward her master's degree in accountancy, and Elizabeth Cristobal (Chicago, IL), Morgan Kumer (Canton, IL) and Zachary Pugh (Naperville, IL), who are all majoring in accountancy, presented in the Community Outreach category of the Best Practices competition, sponsored by Deloitte. A second team, which included accounting majors Sara White (Smithfield, IL) and Sean Drake (Port Barrington, IL), as well as Jongin Park (Macomb, IL), who is working toward his master's degree in accountancy, competed in the Strategic Planning category.

The teams competed against other universities in the region, including Michigan-Dearborn University, Bowling Green State University, Indiana University-Bloomington, Ohio Northern University, Case Western Reserve University, Kent State University, Cleveland State University, Western Michigan University, Northern Illinois University, the University of Southern Indiana and the University of Cincinnati.

Beta Alpha Psi is a financial information honorary organization for students and professionals with the primary objective of encouraging or giving recognition to scholastic or professional excellence.
