MACOMB, IL -- The annual fundraiser for Western Illinois University Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge No. 169 is underway. Donations collected will help the WIU FOP to supply bike helmets to McDonough County elementary school students, as well as to provide support for a host of local organizations and events.

In 2016, the FOP distributed helmets to every first grader in McDonough County school districts. In addition, the WIU FOP assisted various McDonough County organizations including the Bushnell Area Traveling Sluggers, Colchester and Good Hope Little League, Macomb Kiwanis, Macomb High School After Prom, McDonough County Girls Softball League, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Samaritan Well, as well as Boy Scouts of America, Special Olympics and St. Baldricks Foundation. The FOP also awarded book scholarships for McDonough County high school graduates attending Western. In addition, the WIU FOP is continuing to renovate Camp Chic-A-Gama at Spring Lake to serve area youth activities, and the WIU FOP sponsors a local Cub Scout pack. Since 1997, the WIU FOP has provided more than $200,000 to support area organizations.

"We are very appreciative of the support we receive each year. Because of the continued generosity of our donors, we are able to provide helmets to local school children and provide financial support to many worthy community organizations" said Guy Huston, FOP No. 169 president. "As in years past, it is our hope that the residents of McDonough County donate to our annual initiative so we can continue to assist the many organizations and deserving young people in our region."
