Trumpet Artist to Tour with WIU Jazz Studio Orchestra

MACOMB, IL – Trumpet artist Byron Stripling will tour with the Western Illinois University Jazz Studio Orchestra (JSO) Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 17-19.

The tour will include stops in central Illinois, Chicago and the Quad Cities and performances at the famed Chicago landmark Fitzgerald's, Tuesday-Wednesday, Nov 17-18. Concerts at Fitzgerald's begin at 7:30 p.m. each night and tickets are available about the door are $10 for adults and $5 for students under age 18.

The tour will culminate in a performance of the JSO with Byron Stripling at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

"The music we are preparing for Mr. Stripling is fantastic," said JSO Director John Cooper. "It includes some of the standards that date back to the beginning of the jazz tradition, like 'St. James Infirmary,' 'Bourbon St. Parade,' 'When the Saints Go Marching In,' as well as newer music. Everyone will love this show."

Stripling is one of the great trumpet artists of the jazz tradition. His tribute to Louis Armstrong has become America's most popular orchestral pops program.

The COFAC concert is open free to the public.
