MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University Community Music School (CMS) is thriving with students of all ages learning to express themselves and enjoy music to the fullest.

Since the school opened in January 2009, the program has been offering musical opportunities for singers, instrumentalists and pre-school children, and each year a new program has been added.

This year CMS will continue its adult piano program called Recreational Music Making. Designed for adult beginners, this piano program focuses on student goals and uses a flexible curriculum that is encouraging and self-paced. Classes will take place in the piano lab in Browne Hall at the WIU School of Music.

CMS is continuing its music program for pre-school aged children and their parents called Family Music Classes. The class brings musical playtime activities to life, teaching children and adults how to sing together in class and at home.

New this year will be a limited amount of private lessons for flute. Other opportunities at CMS include private lessons for guitar, voice, organ and piano. A string orchestra program will be offered for experienced string students.

CMS programs are staffed with teachers who are exceptionally qualified, as well as brilliant performers. CMS' goal is to provide the highest quality instruction through artistic modeling and knowledgeable pedagogy.

Registration is available online at wiu.edu/communitymusicschool.
