MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Political Science Professor Julia Albarracin has been awarded the University's first Dan and Laura Webb Endowed Professorship.

The three-year award, named for WIU Alumnus Dan Webb and his wife, Laura, was established in 2014. The professorship is designed to recruit and retain key faculty members and lasts for three years.

Webb, a Chicago attorney who is chair of Winston & Strawn, LLC, is the only WIU alumnus to receive the University's three highest honors: the Alumni Achievement Award, the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

Albarracin came to Western in 2005, after receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 2004. She has studied Latino and Latina immigrants in rural Illinois, and her book, "At the Core and in the Margins: The Incorporation of Mexican Immigrants in Rural Illinois," will be published by Michigan State University Press in 2016.

She has also written a number of articles on immigration and related topics.

The professorship is funded by a generous gift by the Webbs to WIU. The gift also funded the Dan and Laura Webb Pre-Law Scholarship Fund.
