Purple and Gold Day 2015 Celebrated April 24 Around the World

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University and the WIU Alumni Association will celebrate Purple and Gold Day 2015 Friday, April 24 with 15 simultaneous events around the world.

Events at each location will include an evening social, with complimentary food and a cash bar, along with a message from WIU streamed live to all 15 locations. A special breakfast will be held for students and alumni to celebrate Purple and Gold Day that morning from 7:30-9 a.m. at the Alumni House, with complimentary food and drinks.

Alumni, friends and community members are invited to join us in Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Los Angeles, CA; Macomb; Moline, IL; Naperville, IL; Northbrook, IL; Peoria, IL; Phoenix, AZ; Orlando, FL; Seattle, WA; South Korea; St. Louis, MO, and Washington, DC. There are two bonus events in Sheridan, WY, and Philadelphia, PA.

The tradition of celebrating Purple and Gold Day at Western began on April 24, 2000, with the close on the University's 100-year celebration. The date in 2000 marked the 100-year anniversary of the day in 1899 when the Illinois Legislature approved the creation of what would become WIU.

Members of the WIU community are encouraged to wear purple and gold that day to show school spirit and to attend one of the events in a location nearest them. For those who are unable to attend one of the events, visit wiu.edu/alumni to view the live message at 7 p.m. (CDT).

Purple and Gold Day 2015 t-shirts will be available to purchase at each event, online at wiu.com/alumni, by calling (309) 298-1914 or stop by the Alumni House. Pre-registration for Purple and Gold Day events is preferred; however, walk-ins are welcome.
