MACOMB, IL - On Wednesday, Feb. 18, the Western Illinois University Student Alumni Leadership Council (SALC) will join nearly 100 educational institutions worldwide to participate in Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day.

SALC, in collaboration with the WIU Annual Fund, will host a "Thank You" campaign from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the University Union to distinguish the high levels of engagement and support that Western and the Alumni Association have received from alumni, faculty, staff, community members and friends over the past year. WIU students will gather at the University Union to send more than 1,000 handwritten thank-you notes to donors in the Quad Cities area.

"The SALC members have been excited to engage the WIU community in this event. I am so excited to see how it turns out," said SALC Advisor Brian Richter.

Photos of Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day and Foundation statistics will be posted on the WIU Alumni Association Facebook page facebook.com/WIUAlumni on Feb. 18. SALC members will also be thanking WIU faculty and staff members who have donated to the University during the past year.

The national initiative, organized by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Affiliated Student Advancement Programs (ASAP), is designed to grow engagement on campuses and increase student understanding of philanthropy. Institutions participate in the event through various activities, including "thank-a-thons," day-long social media campaigns and student video interviews on what giving means to them. Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day is part of CASE ASAP's goal to foster and enhance student involvement in all areas of advancement, including fundraising, alumni relations, communications and marketing.

CASE ASAP provides a variety of programming opportunities, services and resources in advancement, including fundraising and alumni relations, for students and advisers at student alumni associations, student foundations and similar organizations at colleges and universities that are members of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
