MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas and Executive Director of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach Rick Carter were recently invited guests to the "Auspicious Occasion of the 87th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand and the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand" held in Washington, D.C. The event was hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy Ambassador Vijavat Isarabhakdi.

Minister of Education for the Royal Thailand Embassy Piroon Phienlumlert, who traveled to the Macomb campus in Spring 2014 to visit with nine Royal Thai Scholars who are completing their studies at Western, shared with Thomas and Carter that the University has provided exceptional international student support for the Thai Scholars.

"It was a privilege to be included in this noteworthy event," Thomas said. "We are proud of our partnership with Thailand, and it is an honor to host the Royal Thai Scholars as they pursue their degrees at Western Illinois University."
