WIU, Moline Public Library Sign Agreement
August 7, 2014
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Western Illinois University students, faculty and staff, along with Moline Public Library (MPL) patrons, now have access to numerous other books and resources thanks to an agreement signed today (Aug. 7) between the two entities.
Western and the Moline Library signed a reciprocal agreement that allows patrons from both library systems to borrow books from the other. In addition, patrons from both institutions can visit and use the materials and resources in any of the MPL or WIU libraries, both in Macomb and Moline, noted WIU Dean of Libraries Michael Lorenzen.
"We are pleased to enter into this partnership with the Moline Public Library. This provides yet another wonderful resource for our campus community, as well as area residents," said WIU President Jack Thomas.
Another unique feature of the partnership allows individuals to return books from either library system at any WIU or Moline library location, Lorenzen noted.
"WIU is fortunate to have beautiful libraries, with numerous resources, at both its campuses. The services we provide are beneficial not only to our campus communities, but to the entire Quad Cities community," Lorenzen added. "I hope this agreement will make everyone feel welcome to visit our campuses and enjoy our libraries."
Moline Public Library Director Lee Ann Fisher noted that the partnership is the ideal opportunity to share resources.
"This benefits everyone involved, and makes the WIU community feel like a part of Moline," she added.
Joe Rives, WIU vice president of the Quad Cities and planning, added that the partnership illustrates the common bond between the University and the communities it serves.
