Inaugural Rocky Run April 26; 5K Run/Walk for Purple and Gold Day Celebration

MACOMB, IL – The inaugural Rocky 5K Run/Walk at Western Illinois University is set to start at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the WIU Alumni House. Hosted by the Student Alumni Association (SAA) and the Student Alumni Leadership Council (SALC), the race is an extension of the celebration of Purple and Gold Day (which is April 24) at Western.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to show their Purple and Gold Day Rocky Run Pride by wearing the colors or painting themselves (purple and gold) the day of the race (paint will be supplied). Participants (who are sporting the colors) will earn a chance to win a $100 (cash) grand prize and be declared WIU's "Most Devoted Fan."

The race pre-registration fee is $15 per person (participants will receive a t-shirt) or $5 (no t-shirt) and is due by Friday, April 25. Day-of-the-event registration is $20 (participants will receive a t-shirt) or $5 (no t-shirt provided). Prizes will also be provided for overall race winners, including male/female top finishers, top finishers in three age groups and for walkers. Race check-in starts at 7 a.m. at the Alumni House.
