MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University's Department of Accounting and Finance, the WIU chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) and the Illinois CPA Society, invite area high schools to participate in the ninth annual Accounting Challenge at 9:15 a.m. Friday, April 11 at Stipes Hall, room 121.

Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. in Stipes Hall, room 122.

The event will allow high school students the opportunity to demonstrate financial accounting knowledge in a written examination. Participating schools will be placed in divisions based on enrollment, and prizes will be awarded based on the highest individual scores in each division. Students placing first through fifth will receive an award.

The WIU Department of Accounting and Finance will provide scholarship awards of $500, $300 and $200 to first through third place, respectively.

High schools with more than two students competing will have the option of entering a team competition, with teams of three or four students. Trophies will be awarded to first through third place.

During the competition, teachers and counselors are invited to participate in an educator roundtable discussion, which will center on recent developments in the accounting profession, topic coverage in high school accounting courses and improved teaching effectiveness.
