WIU Student Injured in Auto Accident

MACOMB, IL -- A Western Illinois University student was injured in a one-vehicle accident on University Drive Thursday, Feb. 20.

According to WIU Office of Public Safety (OPS) officials, Dominique T. Rosemond, 18, of 1403 Henninger Hall, was seriously injured in the accident, which occurred at 1:50 a.m. Thursday. OPS reported that Rosemond was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. According to hospital staff, Rosemond is in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, nonstudent Deanta D. Edwards, 23, of Chicago, was taken to McDonough District Hospital where he was treated and released. Edwards was later arrested for no valid driver's license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was lodged in the McDonough County Jail. The accident remains under investigation.

"We extend our thoughts and prayers to Dominique and his family," said WIU President Jack Thomas.
